Wellington Zinefest x LAGANZ
Queer History Workshop
Wellington Zinefest worked with the Lesbian and Gay Archives New Zealand (LAGANZ) to run this free weekend workshop on local queer history.
Workshop Day One
Saturday September 26, 10am - 3pm
National Library, 70 Molesworth Street
Will Hansen and Roger Swanson from LAGANZ introduced the archive collection, showed us some items and lead us on a behind the scenes tour around the archives. Then we sat down and explored some of the LAGANZ material to consider what value queer archives have for us today.
Workshop Day Two
Sunday September 27, 10am - 3pm
Mashuko, 70 Ghuznee Street
Using copies of the materials and ideas found at the archives, the participants worked together to make a collaborative zine which explores local queer history. This zine has been compiled and printed.
Launch Event
Friday October 2, 5:30pm - 7pm
National Library, 70 Molesworth Street
We held a public launch for the zine at National Library. All contributors were given a free copy, and the zine was deposited to LAGANZ and the National Library.
This collage of local queer historical imagery is by Will Hansen.
