Wellington Zinefest 2024
Wellington Zinefest 2024 was held on October 12th & 13th at VUW's School of Design Innovation. We also held an after party on October 28th at Trades Hall.

FreedomShop is a local anarchist collective with the aim to spread radical anti-capitalist & anti-imperialist information & to support decolonisation - Māori never ceded sovereignty.
Gus Mitchell
Gus is just a guy who draws comics for fun. He has drawn comics for Salient, Speck and Bristle, and now tirelessly works on his own projects, like the one about a planet of conspiracy theorists and the one about a retired dolphin soldier.

Katrina loves to create zines about her heritage, hobbies and things that happen around her. She will also have some stickers and prints available with her cute and quirky art style!

Landroverfarm Press
David Merritt is a techno-luddite from way back and runs a copyleft, bespoke, recycling publishing empire called Landroverfarm Press from a no exit gravel road in the middle of nowhere. He is a one person, travelling, zine-making sweatshop.

Laya Rose is an illustrator who makes zines about plants, bugs, and books.

A zine about Goblins, a zine about Dragons and a zine full of scribbles.

RY$
RY$ dives into the rabbit-holes of Hip Hop so you don't have to. The cultural zeitgeist that is the focus of the collection this year is the Kendrick Lamar and Drake beef of 2024. These two rap titans engaged in a very public, damaging feud. Their beef transcended rap and hip hop circles, and bled into the mainstream. This collection explores the genesis of their beef, and presents the facts objectively. Who won this beef? You decide.

Shay Likes Orange
Shay is an artist and graphic designer with a passion for tea, orange and painting cats. Their zines are all about capturing little moments and the importance of self care.
Somn Martin
Somn Martin makes a variety of comics and zines, with mostly autobiographical work. They also sell silly clown stickers and various prints. Look here for Wellington Zinefest Best Comic Zine 2023 runnerup 'Migration.'

The Glitch Witch
THE GLITCH WITCH, also known as Cassidy (they/them), is a world-building, dungeon mastering, artist extraordinaire. Their interest lies in creating dark art that both bemuses and amuses, while capturing that nostalgic liminality only found in some hazy memories.
Thorn Richards
Thorn loves bugs and art zines, and is a regular at local art markets. Their publications are filled with bugs - weird, wonderful and a bit sumptuous. All creatures are hand drawn with fountain pen and saturated with digi-colours. Their love of wild wee critters, alien forms and innovative creatures real and imagined spills into all of their making practice, which also includes jewellery and sculpture. Through their art Thorn seeks to celebrate, encourage and empower diversity and transformation.

Zoe Joan Art
Zoe Joan Art makes works injected with queer māori magic. Her zines are full of fantasy goodness, as well as messages of love and confidence.
Adam from
Adam presents “FROM,” a lowfi zine developed for his final year capstone programme. Interviewing Wellington image makers—where are they from and how does that inform their practice now? A collection of generously shared stories, insights into experiences, and what motivates them as creatives. Alongside this Adam is offering a selection of “Quick and Dirty” zines he makes every week so he doesn’t go mad.
Ashley Maher
Ashley makes silly zines about anything that takes her fancy. Topics range from cats to cones to cryptids
Chantal McIlraith
Chantal is a Pōneke based artist who works in both acrylics and digital mediums. She can usually be located operating on 3 hours of sleep and lots of bubble tea.
Frankie goes to hell
Hey there, I’m Frankie I make comics! Currently working on ‘When I wake’ a dark comedy series about dealing with internal trauma and the consequences of your actions. When I wake serves as a format to express my personal experiences in a digestible and entertaining manner. Living in Wellington for more than half my life, this story cannot be told without it’s connection to Wellington and the hold it has on my heart and mind. If you like eating the rich, blurring the constructed lines of good and bad, and the deconstruction of gender roles, this series will hopefully speak to you.

After an exciting zine fest Sophie (she/they) and Treve (they/them) have gone back to the small and big screen to find that good, good rainbow content. We can't wait to share our latest favourites in our hand illustrated zines.
Joe Harlow
Discover tales of a long lost civilisation of ancient robots confronting extinction when their world is overgrown by rapidly evolving organic lifeforms. Zines and bundles focus on different aspects of the ever expanding art, characters, story and lore.
Kalesbug
Kale's joy for creating zines comes from wanting to share ideas that I find funny, sexy, silly and everything in between. Kale loves to work on character driven stories, and enjoy exploring ways to create memorable moments that will engage with audiences.

Kia Ora! Knights Studios is a small family business with a key focus on telling cute and impactful stories whether it’s through our comics, games or stickers! Temporal Souls is our main comic by Chloe Stephenson which follows a dysfunctional group through a fantasy land.
Lara Frizzell
Lara is an illustrator and the creator of the comic webseries 'OH NO! Japan', a personal story of four chaotic years teaching English in the land of the rising sun. Her other interests include: cute things, yōkai, fish, anime, fish, DnD, and just about everything to do with fish!
Lemon Juice
Lemon Juice is a poetry zine that publishes interviews, articles, and essays on poetry form and breaking the form. Created and edited by Emma Shi.
little bird
little bird is an independent creative & Chinese-style brush artist based in Te-Whanganui-a-Tara. Armed with a bamboo brush in one hand and a digital brush in the other, they enjoy applying traditional painting, calligraphy & handicraft techniques to illustrate the fantastic mythology of the heavenly realms, the enduring tranquility of the natural world, and the simple pleasures of the every day.

robbie k
Robbie's creative work puts an ecological spin on sci-fi worlds, which started with an All-Tomorrows-meets-Octavia-Butler comic called Radicalis. His recent zines feature 8-bit native birds, which occasionally escape from a game-dev hobby project about prehistoric Aotearoa.
Skyesescape
Compulsive and adventurous escapee from reality skyesescape - a growing artist with a range of funny, meaningful and relatable zines as well as stickers and prints.
sphiggs and moorchild
Moorchild presents "the book of swords" and "the book of crowns" two fantasy zines inspired by medieval art. Also available will be limited art prints and sticker packs.
Sphiggs releases their first zine, “Drink recipes for the (somewhat) cheap and (mildly) strange”, with a cute cartoonish style inspired by children’s animation.
Stray
Stray is a UX designer by day and a zinemaker/comic artist occasionally. Her zines are mostly autobiographical and explore the mundane. All her zines are handmade with love.
Tegulai
Cosplayer by trade, Teg has been making art both personal and fanish for many years. Having collaborated on zines before, they have recently branched out into making them themself, about whatever fun topic crosses their mind at the time!
TheKingKez
Kez makes art and comics and dumb jokes. Featured zines include topics like 'books I like', 'what if a river was spooky', and 'sexy clown girls'.
Tomollusk
Tomollusk is an artist, illustrator, painter and picture-maker from Wellington New Zealand. He has an intricate and surreal art style that focuses heavily on texture and contrast. His work is inspired by comics, movies and cartoons and zines are a place where he compiles it all together.
What a Stitch up (Heather McIlraith)
Crotcheted critters and creations from the home of a mental health nurse. May not be like grandma use to make, but will hopefully put a smile on your face. What a stitch up is an Ōtautahi based creator who dabbles in plushies and zines.

5ever Books
5ever is an underground publishing house based at Rebel Press, Trades Hall in Te Whanganui-a-Tara. We print, splice, bind and chop pesky dank little books. Our scope is nebulous. Form and sense of disciplinarity remains plural. But our target is clear: to publish punchy, intense and interdisciplinary work, woven together by a shared transformational kaupapa. We recognise the collective necessity of actively infiltrating and affecting our playground and home, Wellington. As we balance our vision with pragmatism, we are committed to realising a post-capitalist vision that honours Te Tiriti O Waitangi in Aotearoa. We are serious in our playfulness.
