Zook Factory
As part of the Wellington Zinefest Weekend in 2022, we hosted 5ever Books to hold their book factory project inside the atrium of Victoria University. The book factory is a publishing set-up where the public are invited to write, draw or otherwise create materials for pages inside a book, which is then immediately edited, bound and published. The publishing machinery is powered by electricity gathered from a bike, pedaled live on-site.
On Saturday October 15, the 5ever team produced eight distinct 'Zooks' - a name for a combination of a zine and book. Each of these is available for download below.
It's difficult to determine the exact number of participants, but we've counted 125 different contributions across these eight zooks. The contributions include drawings, comics, collage, poetry, letters, confessional writing, storytelling and much more.
The Zook Factory was made possible with funding support from Wellington City Council.
